There are moments in life when it feels like the world has stopped. And, the arrival of COVID-19 was one of them. We, along with the rest of the world, felt the fear, sadness, and anxiety that comes with navigating a pandemic — and the pressure of keeping both ourselves and loved ones safe.
Home to 210 million people, Brazil serves as our inspiration day in and day out. Without their rich, vibrant culture we would not be able to create the amazing products you’ve grown to love. It didn’t feel like the Sol de Janeiro ethos to sit back and simply watch — we had to be actionable. More than ever, we are grateful for what we have, but even more grateful that we can share our resources with others who need it most.
According to Reuters, Brazil has registered over 2.7 million cases of the virus since the pandemic began, while the official death toll has risen to 93,563. Sadly, COVID-19 has been ravaging this beautiful country, recording an upwards of 45,392 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus as well as 1,088 deaths in as short as a 24-hour span.
As a start, we have partnered with a local grassroots organization, Juntos Em Nome Amor, to distribute food, water, hygiene products, clothing, and masks to communities being affected most. This on-going, philanthropic effort will assist those in cities like Rio de Janeiro focusing on vulnerable communities that do not have adequate resources to contend with COVID-19.
Yes, this pandemic feels daunting but together we can all transform lives a little bit at a time. We leave you with the inspiring African philosophy of “Ubuntu” which translates to “I am because of who we all are.” SOL Family, please stay safe, wear a mask, and as always, take care of one another.
