Here’s The Meaning Behind Sol de Janeiro’s Brand Name

We’re not sure about you, but at Sol de Janeiro we are thrilled to be entering a brand new year—and embracing a fresh outlook as well. Out with the old and in with the new!

Speaking of starting fresh, we wanted to give you a quick refresher on what our name actually means. When translated from Portuguese, Sol de Janeiro means “Sun of January,” which is so fitting since the seasons are totally flipped. While North America is bundling up for winter, Brazilians are experiencing peak summer temperatures. Yes, summer is at its best in January! P.s. it’s okay to be a little jealous.

Those familiar with our products (and the delicious Brazilian Bum Bum Cream scent) know that our brand draws deep inspiration directly from Brazil. Since Brazilians love the sun, our goal was to capture the essence of summer and spread feelings of warmth, Body Joy, and the ultimate feeling of being “cheirosa” globally. In the words of SDJ  staffer, Wallace Fortes, “think of us like that warm yellow light that pours life over everybody.”

For us, the joy and beauty of summer is every single day. Our iconic and beauty award-winning  Brazilian Bum Bum Cream,  Samba Foot Fetish Cream, and  Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist  capture the eternal sunshine of Rio de Janeiro. The beloved (and addictive) Cheirosa ‘62 fragrance will instantly transport you to the stunning coastlines of Brazil. Plus, we keep growing with new product arrivals, like the NEW  Triple Brazilian Butter™ Hair Repair Treatment.

Welcome to the SOL Family, where we love life and celebrate our bodies! Happy New Year. Beijos, tchau!
