True or false: how you spray on perfume mist affects the scent and how long it lasts. True! If you’ve ever spritzed a fragrance only to have it disappear quickly or smell totally different once on, it could be because you inadvertently sprayed it too close to the skin, on the wrong place, or at the wrong time (yes, this is a thing). The good news? We’re sharing six steps for how to apply perfume mist so you can smell irresistible for even longer.
How to put perfume on (and other fragrances, too!)
Step 1: Start with a shower
The best time to spritz on your perfume? Right after getting out of the shower. Not only will you feel fresh and clean, but your skin will also be warm, which helps the scent adhere better. For even more scent staying power, use a body wash and body cream in the same scent as your perfume mist—you’ll be amazed at how it lasts even longer.
Step 2: Apply body cream
Using a body cream in the same scent as your perfume mist is a highly effective way to extend the fragrance. And yes, our body cream and body wash match back to a perfume mist—you’re welcome! If you love the scent of Cheirosa 62, start by showering with Brazilian Play Body Wash, then moisturize with Brazilian Bum Bum® Cream. (For extra credit, you can top off with Bum Bum Body Firmeza Oil for more fragrance and even softer skin.) Then, spritz on Cheirosa 62™ Perfume Mist. All of these products feature the same sunny and irresistible notes of pistachio, salted caramel, and vanilla.
Step 3: Spray on your perfume mist before getting dressed
Now, let’s talk about how to spray fragrance. If you were taught to do the “spritz and walk through” method (you know the one), we actually recommend against it. You might miss areas you want to target, like pulse points, and end up wasting some of your precious perfume mist. No thank you!
It may be tempting to spray on your perfume mist after you’ve gotten ready. But the reality is, fragrance lasts longer when it’s in direct contact with your skin. So spritz it before you get dressed, then let it dry down on your skin before putting on your clothes.
That being said, you can use perfume mist to freshen up clothing. Just spray them before you put them on; that way, you can mist them evenly and avoid hitting one area too directly.
Step 4: Pay attention to your pulse points
Now, where do you spray perfume mist? Back to those pulse points we mentioned. These are areas on the body where your blood vessels are closer to your skin’s surface, which naturally creates more warmth. This warmth makes the pulse points— the inside of the wrists, elbows, neck, and behind the knees—perfect spots to apply your perfume mist.
Here’s where should you spray perfume mist, and the best ways to do so:
- Wrists: Spritz on either wrist, or on one wrist and lightly dab on the other. Avoid rubbing your wrists together. This can break down the top notes and alter the way it smells.
- Neck: Apply to your wrists and lightly dab on each side of your neck near your collarbones.
- Elbows: Use your wrists to dab a bit of fragrance on the inside of your elbows.
- Knees: It may seem odd, but spraying perfume on the back of your knees can increase the scent’s sillage, a fancy word for scent trail.
Step 5: Give your hair some love
We can’t talk about where to spray perfume mist without mentioning hair. Did you know our entire perfume mist collection is for both your hair and body? You can spray your go-to perfume mist directly onto your hair, or spritz onto a comb or brush before you swipe it through. Either way, your hair will smell absolutely incredible.
Step 6: Reapply your perfume mist as needed
Feel like you need a midday refresh? Our perfume mist is designed so that you can re-spray throughout the day without the scent becoming overwhelming. Or, if you want to change things up, you can mix and match with another perfume mist in our collection.
Did you start with our warm and cozy Cheirosa 71, featuring notes of caramelized vanilla, toasted macadamia nut, and rich tonka bean? After a few hours, try topping it off with Cheirosa 59, which has notes of vanilla orchid, sugared violet, sheer sandalwood, and whipped amber.
More tips for how to use perfume mist
Spray from 5-7 inches away
If you feel like your perfume mist is too concentrated in one area, it might be because you’re applying too close to the skin. Spray it from five to seven inches, so you can target your pulse points without over- or under-doing it.
Know how strong your perfume mist is
Another thing to know about how to wear perfume is the strength of your formula. If you want a stronger fragrance, try an eau de parfum, like our SOL Cheirosa 62™ Eau de Parfum. It features the same gourmand scent as our Cheirosa 62(™)perfume mist, but it’s even longer-lasting.
How to store your perfume mist
You may be asking, where do you put perfume mist to make sure it keeps as long as possible? It might be most intuitive to keep them in your bathroom, but that’s actually not the best place to store them. Water, humidity, and changing temperatures can alter the perfume mist’s composition over time. That being said, sunlight can also break down fragrance (it’s temperamental, we know).
Instead, the best place to keep your perfume mist is in a cool, dark, and dry place. Think: A vanity drawer or your bedroom dresser. Trust us, it will make a major difference in the long run.
