We love gorgeous glowing skin for reasons that are beyond skin-deep; we feel unstoppable when our outward appearance equally reflects our glowing inner radiance! Facts are facts: glow-getters run the world.
As much as we would LOVE to bask in the sun all day errday (safely with SPF, of course), that’s not always an option in our busy lives, and we like to give our skin a break from the sun's rays sometimes.
Luckily, we have so many options for faux-ing the glow now since self-tanning products have really vamped up the past decade. Say goodbye to old school orange spray tans (circa 2009) for good!
Now that we’re spending more time at home, using self-tanner is a practical + easy way of transforming ourselves into bronzed goddesses in our very own bathrooms!
Before you run over and hurriedly slap on some tanner, let us remind you that ALL masterpieces start with a well-primed canvas, including you and your gorgeous bod. Trust us, taking that little extra care to prime and prep before self-tanning will make the world of a difference, and it’s an enjoyable process too!
Here’s a quick step by step on how to perfectly prime your skin for a self-tan with no streaks and no patches.
How To Get A Brazilian Tan
Follow these easy steps to get a flawless Brazilian tan, every single time.
Step 1: Exfoliate
The number one archnemesis of self-tanning is dry skin. It loves to cling on to any uneven texture such as flaky, dry skin, deep lines, or open hair follicles. To avoid this, hop in the shower and exfoliate your skin with Bum Bum Body Scrub, giving extra attention to the usual dry suspects like elbows, knees, and ankles.
Pro-tip: Control the level of exfoliation by adjusting how much water you’re incorporating with the scrub. The wetter your skin/more water = the faster the sugar exfoliants will dissolve, resulting in a gentler scrub. For deeper exfoliation, turn the shower off and apply the scrub on damp (as opposed to completely wet) skin.
Step 2: Shave
Now that you’ve exfoliated, this is the perfect time to shave. Not only will this prevent the self-tanner from getting stuck in your hair follicles (which will result in uneven dark spots), but this will allow you to get closer to the root of the hair follicle, meaning you’ll get to go longer in between shaves too! Double win.
Step 3: Moisturize
Apply your favorite body cream to the aforementioned dry culprits like elbows, knees, and ankles. We also recommend applying them to your hands and knuckles if you are prone to having dry hands. Use Brazilian Bum Bum Cream for a fast-absorbing body cream that’s great for all skin types, but if you need a little extra help in the hydration department, we recommend Coco Cabana Body Cream.
Have sensitive skin? Try the Brazilian Nude Body Cream for a fragrance-free and shimmer-free option.
Step 4: Glow Up
Now for the fun part!
With so many options now for at-home self-tanning, choose your favorite method (tanning water, mousse, drops, or even airbrush if you’re fancy schmancy). Our favorite method at the moment is using tanning drops because we can customize how much we want to glow by mixing it in with our moisturizer. Even more importantly, this happens to be the best-smelling option because we get to break out our beloved Brazilian Bum Bum Cream for this process.
Here’s our current self-tanning routine:
- Scoop up enough Brazilian Bum Bum Cream in your hand for one area of your body.
- Mix in 1 - 12 drops of the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops. (More drops = deeper tan).
- Apply until fully absorbed, and repeat on all areas you’re looking to bronze up.
- Once finished, wash your hands thoroughly.
Looking for something that’s less commitment than a self-tanner? We’ve got you covered! The GlowMotions Glow Body Oils are the perfect solution for getting that temporary glow that you can wash off at the end of the day. Use Copacabana Bronze for a warm bronze, Rio Sunset for a translucent champagne shimmer, and Carnaval Queen for the perfect rosy sunkissed glow.
All good things must come to an end. When you’re ready for a clean slate again, hop in the shower and exfoliate with the exfoliate your skin with Bum Bum Body Scrub on damp (not wet) skin to help ease off the old tan to make way for the new!
